Thinking on making Oklahoma our final destination to live, need input please! (Oklahoma City: new home, taxes)

Im not a one track mind about Durant! Its al I really know of Oklahoma other than Stillwater for 4 years. OP Durant is more influenced by Texas than Oklahoma in my experience. I grew up there and left for college then left Oklahoma for my career in oil and gas mostly in Houston. Durants economy however is strong by any measure. Unemployment percent is in the threes last time I saw a number. Choctaw casino is just south of ther and has been a good neighbor, recently doubling capacity adding 1000 jobs which means Texans have to move or drive to Durant area to work. In 2017, a steel recycling plant will open just east fo Durant on the bypass. This is the largest new private company investment in Oklahoma in 10 years acccording to the news. 5 states and many more communities competed for these jobs and Durant got the nod.
Its not perfect but i a nice smaller town near a large ake.
Durant is fine and is doing well but scenically its a bit less interesting than the northeast and central east (my opinion). As said above, Tenkiller is especially nice, Grand is too but a little pricey, I myself also like the Eufaula area, I could understand why some might not. The lower end is actually really blue most of the time, however this year it has never cleared up after the huge spring floods. Maybe it will this winter. As of lately still a little murky.
There are at least a dozen other nice lakes in the area to check out property on, I like Fort Gibson, Hudson too.
We were transferred here 17 years ago from the Northwest corner of IL. (Stockton/Galena area). I still prefer that Northwestern part of IL to OK but I do have a ranch and enjoy my ranch plus I have 5 going on 6 grandchildren so, OK is where I'll be. I'd say stay close to Tulsa and be near the Grand Lakes area. I am near Lake Eufaula but prefer Grand Lakes. Also in that area you'll be close to Tulsa and you can head on up to Branson if you like too. My children are in the OKCity and Stillwater area and I will not tell them but, I do not care for that area. Well, Stillwater is nicer than the City. I do love my ranch in the hills near McAlester but at some point I'll have to sell because taking care of cows will become hard sooner or later. To stay in OK, I'll move near Grand Lakes.
OK ALL...thank you for all who responded, love to hear about different areas. I am gathering all this information and will be making a trip there soon. We just received 10 inches of snow last night and I am so ready to go somewhere alittle warmer, lol!! Keep the suggestions coming as i can use all the help I can get! Thanks Again! While I'm positive Illinois is colder than Oklahoma (my wife is from the Midwest too/Indiana), you'll be surprised how bitingly cold it can get here.
Yesterday it was almost 70 degree here in OKC, this morning with the wind, it feels somewhere around 25-30 degrees. Chilly.
I would recommend the Durant area also! I moved to Durant in 2003 when I was 12, graduated from high school there, and loved it! I have lots of other family that still live there and in the area and they love it as well. As others have said before, Durant has easy access to the Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. In fact, Durant is part of the DFW CSA, a region of 7.1 million people. And there's a ton of property along Lake Texoma. Durant is also the capital of the Choctaw Nation.

Also Durant isn't in an earthquake prone part of Oklahoma. People in central, north central and northwestern Oklahoma have to live in worry every day, if the next super big one is coming.
