Hello

I am going to Toledo, OH from Chicago and I wanted to know the best rote. Google Maps suggests I-80E; but it has tolls. On the other hand, it suggests US-20 without tolls; and it takes 25 min more. I wanted to know which is the better option in terms of places to see on the way; as the time will be almost the same. I know South Bend is on US-20, but is there any other advantage of US-20 over I-80?

Thanks,

-John

I pretty much always take the turnpike. I don't know how much you plan on stopping but the turnpike is gonna be much faster and the path is more direct. 20 might take you past more little lakes and through small towns, albeit at a slower pace, so if that's of interest, its up to you. It's not too expensive to get through Indianas toll.

I just plan on stopping once for gas. How much of a time difference would it be between the 2 routes? It is just a weekend trip so I dont mind spending 30-60 min more if US-20 has better things to look out for on the way.

You can get a tour of one of the RV manufacturers in Elkhart or Mishawaka.

The US 20 route will take you through some Amish country, so watch out for the horse & buggies.

When I can justify it, say if my destination is in central Chicago, and I'm not in a particular hurry (i have an extra hour or two to spare, no prob), and I'm travelling alone with no help in gas money, ill just spend a tiny bit more than what I would on gas and just take Amtrak. I find it an interesting and relaxing way to travel.

You can go right from Union Station in Chicago to MLK Plaza Terminal in Toledo.

Just another option...
