For a decade and some change, commercials for Mount Airy Lodge ran in the Tri-State area, which told potential visitors that all they had to bring "was their love of everything" and all schmaltzy stuff. They had distinctive jingles that I'm sure many still recall today. Here in NYC, I grew up watching the early '90's version of this commercial, shown here:

It was located in the Poconos down in PA, so I was wondering if any of you native PA'ers ever stopped by there. From what I've read, the place was far from being the "beautiful" place that was presented in the commercials, which I found interesting.

Oh gosh yes, the old Mt. Airy Lodge was a total hellhole by the time I visited it in the 1990s. My husband used to work there in various jobs during high school and college in the late 80s/early 90s. Everything was falling apart by then, the carpets looked straight out of the 70s....upkeep on the property was terrible and finally it did go out of business around 2000, I believe.

Here is a great article about it (which interestingly enough mentions that the reservation clerks were told to lie - especially about the weather, which is true, as my husband did work in that role for a while):
Weird Pennsylvania

Now it is the all-new Mt. Airy Casino & Resort with spa, entertainment, everything is new. I do not gamble, so I have no reason to visit.

Wanted to add that I just found pics from 2006 when we visited - after the resort was torn down but pre modern casino:

I was raised in Monroe County and saw the large hotels during their hay day. I never thought of Mount Airy as beautiful. I always thought of Skytop Lodge as spectacular. Buck Hill was magnificent during it’s hay day. Buck Hill and Skytop have the stone work - Mount Airy was wood frame and temporary glitter. Here is a link to Skytop - which is still in operation today: http://skytop-px.trvlclick.com/

I have been in the new Mount Airy. However; it was to look the place over. I also don’t gamble and fought against legalized gambling coming into our state. My quick tour through the place did not impress me - but; I am a hard sell.

Has anyone been there more recently? It looks great in the pictures, and on the dates I'm considering there's really good rates, with a $50 per day dining credit. How's the food? How does this place compare to Borgata, or Foxwoods? Thanks to all.

My airy casino is awesome. I was there two years ago. Is this the same?

'Beauty is in the eye of the beholder'. Two times I have been to the 'new' MA and have not spent one dime. I would have dropped a few dollars if they still took coins. But no way am I going to use plastic to play any machine. I worked hard to earn my money and they are going to have to work even harder to get my money out of my hands.

Mt. Airy casino is terrible. Full of cigarette smoke and oddball games. Good luck finding a blackjack table.

Huh? The machines take $5 bills or higher, when you leave the machine you get a ticket you put in a machine for redemption or take to the cashier. Outside of a few machines in a few properties mainly in Nevada, almost no casinos have machines that either accept or pay out in coins. Coins in slot machines are pretty much a thing of the past
