It sounds like you and maybe your brother have become too confrontational, and insulting. The relatives know when they're being manipulted.
Maybe they are amusing themselves by seeing how long they can hold out and make you squirm. While you and your brother are cajoling them, they're taking bets in the kitchen over who can hold out the longest.
Anyway, go there for your Grandmother's sake, and when she's gone you and your brother can make your own traditions for the holidays with, um, strangers who talk a lot.
Bottom line: Maybe a show of genuine caring and interest on your part would go a lot further.
Between the food, beer and catching up on family gossip, boring hasn't been an issue at my family gatherings. I'm not really a drinker but it does tend to help people relax. I have two toddlers now so I'm usually busy putting things back on the shelf they took them from, or cleaning up the cats water they spilled, or making sure the bathroom and bedroom doors are closed so their drawers don't get ransacked. Going to others peoples' houses now is so FUN!!
LOL!! My stomach is hurting! Gosh, am I the only one who finds this super hilarious?? This needs to be clipped on C-D's Best Forum (Mods, please create one if it doesn't exist).
Tried booze, they will not drink, and talking about them and the past, every trick in the book (Dale Carnegie How to win friends and influence people), failure.
