My mother and brothers all live in the city. However starting a family, enjoying having a house and yard to play in, we were thinking of living just outside. We like art and trendy stores and parks and we have a car. We were thinking of Nyack.
Should we go up the Hudson? Make haste for Connecticut? What are the ups and downs of living in the different smaller places around NYC? Any stand out to you particularly?
Excited to move back to the city (area) - uncertain how to enjoy the city without making too much work for myself.
I personally love Nyack. But there are other elements to consider. Do you need to commute to NYC? If so, Nyack is less than ideal. During a non-rush hour time, Nyack is a very easy drive into NYC. But if you actually need to commute on a daily basis during rush hour, it can be a nightmare.
Also, look closely at Nyack schools. They lack the prestige and reputation of some neighboring districts.
But yes, for decent proximity to the city, a bit trendy, walkable area.. Nyack is nice. The reason to go further up the Hudson, would largely be a question of afforability. Take a look at prices of homes that you like in Nyack. If that house with a nice yard is in your price range, you may not need to look further.
Right across the river from Nyack is Tarrytown. Tarrytown is much more convenient and offers the same Hudson River views as Nyack. Nice quaint historic town.
Tarrytown is a must see if you are looking for good towns near NYC.
