Hello ckhthankgod, how are you? You shared some good information with me about upstate NY nabes. I am considering NJ now. Would you mind sharing your recommendations? My preferences are an apartment with yard space for my dog, walkable neighborhood, diverse in age and ethnicity. Thanks in advance.

For NJ? This is off topic, but in terms of communities, I'd say the South Orange/Maplewood area and Montclair would be a couple to look into off the bat.
To keep it bit on topic, I again would say that Ithaca, Syracuse's University/Westcott area on the East Side, Rochester's SE Quadrant, Buffalo's Elmwood Village, Helderberg/Pine Hills/New Scotland in Albany and even areas like South Utica, Binghamton's West Side(south of Main St.) and Schenectady's Union Street corridor, among some others.
