Did anyone else see what I think was a car on fire around 6, 6:30pm today? I was heading to the subway when I noticed that clouds of smoke were drifting toward me and then I saw the fire. A huge crowd of people were running towards it to take pictures.
Anyone know what happened?

Gothamist says it was a van fire. I think I would have run away from it instead of toward it, especially after the attempted car bombing in Times Square recently! If it is really true it took cops 10 minutes to arrive, that is inexcuseable.

Wow, that really is inexcusable. It must have been going on for some time then, because when I got there, the cops were just arriving.
I did take a few pics, but left quickly afterward...didn't want to be around a burning car!
