HI All, thanks to all who helped with my last question. Now we are trying to narrow things down. Hubby will work close to Orange & Broad in Newark, so we'd like to find a rental with a 1 train commute there (up to 40 minutes is ok). We are completely open to any town or city--under these requirements: Safety (in our apt, walking to train & in neighborhood), family friendly--we don't need nightlife/streetwalkers, a little diversity would be nice, affordable (less than $1900 for a 2 bedroom or large 1 bedroom). We plan on renting temporarily at first for about 6 months. All help is appreciated, especially if you can recommend specific apartments!!!

Broad and Orange puts you right at the "North Borad Street Station". So you'll want to look along the Monclair/Boonton Line or the Morristown/Gladstone Line.

Lincoln Park - Beaverbrook Apartments:
BeaverBrook Gardens Apartments - Home Page

Low crime area, a short walk/ride to local shopping areas (including Shop Rite, banks, cleaners, restaurants, etc.)

They are next door to the NJ Transit train station

LP to Newark Broad Street - about 40 minutes:
New Jersey Transit

Can't help on the apartment hunt, but my office is at Orange and Broad (the 1 Washington Park highrise). Maybe it's the same building? Either way, please let your husband know that the area doesn't have too many options in terms of shopping or food. I miss being able to run errands on my lunch hour.
