Can anyone recommend a broker or company? I've searched on the forum but can't find anything. And don't just brag about NJM - we're not eligible.

edited to add one more thing. Does anyone know - if someone is affiliated with or works out of a certain company's office, can they write insurance with other carriers? For instance if someone is at a State Farm office can they also quote AllState, etc? I know it works that way with Life Insurance but I'm a bit clueless about house insurance. I like to have as much knowledge as possible before I speak to salespeople. Thanks!

Independent Insurance Agenices represent different insurance companies.

The Companies you mention, State Farm and Allstate, use captive agents, meaning that their agents essentially work for the company and cannot quote with any other carriers.

I would suggest using the web or phone book to find a local agent. Look for an agency that is a member of the PIA (professional insurance agents), or the Independent Insurance Agents & Brokers of America. these are two national trade associations. You may actually be able to use their websites as well to find an agent.

Good Luck.

Irish eyes..I know the John B. Wright agency is a very well respected company and I am pretty sure they do business in your area. They have one office in waretown and another in Manasquan, that is in Monmouth county.

Thanks for the additional info. In the new year I'm going to work on the insurance. I'm also going to look into challenging our flood zone.

Default what happened to my homeowners?

i have been living in the leonardo section of middletown for three years and have suddenly been denied renewal of my homeowners insurance. while I am not in a flood zone, the distance from the ocean or bay puts me into a category that is outside the normal spectrum for homeowners insurance right now. has anyone experienced this? what can be done?

I was looking at purchasing a home in Rumson, the home was within so many feet of the river so of course the rates were outrageous. I found this agent who I listed below who went above and beyond and got me an great price
Valente & Associates, LLC
2435 Hwy 34, Suite C
Manasquan, NJ 08736

Agent Jane Granese

Castle Point Insurance was the company that would insure the home and the policy for one year $1,000. Jane works for allstate but used this company. She quoted me the best price out of 10 agencies that I searched and saved me about 500 per year.
