If we move to Westfield/Cranford what is the best way to get to New York Penn? Do people drive to Rahway train station for the direct ride (no transfer)? Is it faster than Westfield train or bus? Is it a more predictable commute? Thanks!
I personally wouldn't drive the 15 to 20 minutes (depending on traffic) from Westfield to Rahway station just to shave 10 to 15 minutes off of my commute into the city.

I'd say it's mixed between those that drive to Rahway/linden vs those that do the transfer from cranford/westfield. My preference has been the bus because of the frequency and likelihood of a seat during pre covid times.
If you move to Westfield or Cranford, why would you you want to travel to Rahway just to take the train? That's silly. You can take a train directly into NY Penn from Westfield and Cranford during off-peak hours and simply take the train to Newark and switch to the NE Cooridor or Coastline train to NY Penn at other times. As long as there isn't traffic or a problem at the tunnel, the 113 bus is definitely the fastest way to get to midtown. I think my record on the bus was 35 min. It normally takes about 40-45 min by bus. It does take about the same by train IF you catch an off peak direct train to NY Penn. But, never any reason to drive to Rahway.
