Can anyone recommend a driving route from Nashville to Portland, OR... we maybe moving there late Feb/Early March... worried about snow conditions on the northern route but that is most direct... we did the drive coming here from CA over the summer it was fine, but i know winter/early spring months could be way different. any suggestions?

Made the drive a few dozen times...all seasons. If you're flexible, make your final decision on which route to take just before leaving based on weather forecasts. I have got hung for a couple of days in a small town motel when the roads were closed due to snow on both northern and southern routes (many people forget that even with the southern route, you get some real elevation), but if you stick to freeways, they are open quickly.

Fastest northern route...I-24 west to I-57N (Illinois) to I-64 West to St. Louis. Pick up I-70 West in St. Louis and stay on it to Denver. Pick up I-25 North to Cheyenne, WY. At Cheyenne, take I-80 west to Salt Lake City. Pick up I-15 north to I-84 West to Portland.
I don't know how long or fast you drive, but typically, if I left, say, Monday morning, I'd be in Portland Wednesday evening...but that's kind of pushing it. You're looking at roughly 2400-2500 miles.

Southern route I usually took to avoid winter storms was I-40 west to California and then pick up I-5 or Highway 99 north into Portland. Go about as far as you can on I-40 and turn right.

Good luck and have a safe trip.
