I'm thinking of getting a job as a nurse in Vanderbilt and I was wondering how much a new graduate nurse makes in Nashville. I'm worried about the cost of living and if I will be able to afford it. I currently reside in Washington.

I don't know about finding a nursing job, but I am a new teacher and I am able to afford living in a 2 bedroom apartment with another person. It's not that expensive to live here compared to other places, you just have to find something you can afford. I live about 5 minutes from downtown, so I'm very close to everything downtown has to offer, but travel about 20 minutes to work.

It's pretty difficult to get accepted as a nurse at Vanderbilt and if you're a new grad and do get a job there, you have to go through some training rounds and they will decide if they want to keep you or not. One of my good friends started there and they didn't keep her..and she graduated at the top of her class from Mizzou. There are other hospitals in the Nashville area that need nurses though. I'm not trying to discourage you, just giving you the facts. My friend started at $17 an hour as an RN in Nashville. This was 2 years ago.
