My husband has just found out he’s on the short list for a promotion that will land him in Smyrna..we’ve never been to the Nashville area so we need some recommendations. We are looking for a suburb/town within a 30 minute commute of Smyrna with fantastic schools (our kids are in 4th, 7th, 8th grade), safe for an active family, and prefer a small town/farm town feel with houses on larger lots or acreage. Our budget is about 1.6k for a four bedroom (can be more if needed) rent or equivalent to buy. Any recommendations and insights are greatly appreciated!

Rural Hill in or Nolensville in would both be nice choices. I'd imagine you'd get more for your money in Rural Hill.

Murfreesboro won't give you the small town/farm feel unless you are outside of the city limits. However, the schools in Murfreesboro are pretty good from what I have been told and might find something in your price range although all rental and real estate prices in middle Tennessee have been rising.

I would go with Rural Hill/Gladeville area or Nolensville. Murfreesboro is a giant suburb of 130,000 people. Williamson (Nolensville) and Wilson (Rural Hill/Glade) are some of the best schools in the state. Murfreesboro would have less expensive options though. If you are looking for cheap housing(relative to Middle TN) look into Rutherford County.

Farm/Rural life isn't Murfreesboro. However, you will find it affordable.

The Stewarts Creek schools off Almaville Rd. near Smyrna are very good.
