1) Eminem (hands down) better than most black rappers IMO
2) Slug (Atmosphere)
3) Aesop Rock
4) Sage Francis
4) Asher Roth (big potential if he finds his niche)

When Eminem gets passionate, similar to what we heard in Recovery, he is on point. I like his music because there's so much emotion driving it. A lot of his lyrics are also witty and clever. Kanye is another one who gets props for this. Jay Z is witty, but I don't feel like there's a lot of emotion behind his music. Same with Lil Wayne. As a matter of fact, Wayne even comes across as lazy to me at times.

I love Eminem but Jay-Z,Tupac, BIG, Dr. Dre, Ice Cube, LL Cool J, Snoop Dog, Common and Nas are legends just to name a few and I don't think Em can take that from any of them given their history. They are great but each one of them have their own style and flow. I don't really listen to rap and hip hop as much as I did in the 90's and early 2000's because a lot of it has gone down hill but I still appreciate all the rap music from the rap artist I mentioned.

Exactly, I think that's why I am fascinated with him. I enjoy smart, witty, clever lyrics and he produces just that. Pretty impressive for a high school drop out.

My English major friend told me they actually studied him for a small segment in one of her college courses, so it's not only you and I you feel this way.

No, he's the most mainstream, and this is evidenced by the fact that you only have mainstream rappers in your poll. The underground is called so for a reason.

Stop playing the race card. White rapper, black rapper - they're just RAPPERS.

Racial distinctions do not apply to humanity, especially in the field of Music and the Arts.

Putting these artists in a category based on something as irrelevant as RACE cheapens their talent and reduces them to an OBJECT based upon the absence of pigment in their skin.

So Eminem and the others have to be in a category to be judged based on their 'RACE' because they can't stand up to any other rapper who's got skin pigment?

I say they can.

MUSIC AND THE ARTS TRANSCENDS RACE!

Please find something else more relevant to talk about.
