Shameless plug, but here's my blues band---during a rehearsal last week, we fell into a jam just to relax when we were done for the day, and we broke into a slightly unlikely jam of "Green Onions" . . . as "Green Onions," and not the Sonny Boy Williamson number ("Help Me") that was pinched from it directly . . .
The photos in this video were taken at two jams at the same Las Vegas club over the last two weeks. If I do say so myself, we floored the place both times---I'd like to think it was because we didn't sound like the usual blues crap beating the usual blues warhorses to death and back. (We didn't play "Green Onions" at either, but we did do a set including Sleepy John Estes's "Diving Duck Blues," Howlin' Wolf's "Who's Been Talking," Allen Toussaint's "Get Out of My Life, Woman," and two original numbers, one written by our keyboard player and one written by me, the guitar player . . .)
