I just saw this, it finally made it to the top of my netflix queue. Really good crime movie about a serial killer in the old Soviet Union. It starts in '82 and continue through '90. It's really intriging to watch the "old style" Soviet political commissars deny that anything like a serial killer could exist in their society.
Stephen Rhea (The Crying Game) Donald Sutherland and Max Von Sydow.
Really great movie. An HBO original production. I really have a lot of respect for a lot of their original stuff. "Band of Brothers" because obviously no one could make a movie that long, "Wit", "When Trumpets Fade" (great, though frustrating war movie), "The Last Seduction" (although I think it also got a theatrical release), just to name a few.
I liked it enough to buy it. I watch it from time to time. Gotta' be in just the right mood.
Stephen Rhea is stunning in the role he plays. I admit it is hard for me to watch him because his facial expressions are so right on. He can act an entire scene and watchers know what is happening without the sound on. I just feel his pain. Great actor.
I cry in this one. I cry when Sutherland apologizes to him and tells him about the FBI opinion of him.
Sutherland is no slouch, either. I've always liked his work. Klute is amazing.
Von Sydow.......YIKES! The guy is a genius of an actor.
