This movie is about a family trying to hide their identities after the parents took part in an anti-war protest bombing incident in the past.

It stars River Phoenix who I think did an amazing performance as the older son.

The good thing about this movie is that you don't have to sympathize with the extreme left-wing ideals of the main characters, to appreciate a story about them. In fact, it doesn't always portray their values in the best light.

Has anyone else seen this? What did you think?

This is the one with River Phoenix, Judd Hirsch, and JoBeth Williams, right?

I haven't seen it since the mid-'90s, so my recollection of specifics is thin. But yeah, I liked the movie quite a lot. Very good movie.

Yes, it's the same River Phoenix movie from 1988 with the same title, that I was referencing.

The basic plot is that he is a talented musician with an opportunity to advance his music education, which his parents don't have the money for. But the background information required for getting a scholarship threatens the safety of his family.

Haven't seen it in 25+ years, but yeah, it's a great movie. The only line I remember, "You can't dance to Beethoven."

That is the film which got River Phoenix a Best Supporting Actor nomination. An excellent movie!
