Not that I have strong feelings about legalizing prostitution, but this still sounds like there is enough in the law to keep it illegal in most cases.

It's like saying any type of beer is OK just as long as there isn't any alcohol in it.

Where are you moving from? Utopia? I don't think that you'll find a major city to move to that doesn't have at least something that's not perfect.

I spent the first 40 years of my life in Montreal -- and 8 years later, I'm back. In all the times I walked around downtown at night, I don't remember ever seeing a prostitute. As for escort services, um, just don't call them?

This shouldn't be a concern for you. If you don't know how to speak French, that should be your first concern.

I agree with what Dawn said. I live in NYC, and we have loads and loads of problems here. I travel a lot between various areas and although there is a lot happening in this big city, I would say these things are still small and locals have other thins on their mind. I would think that MTL is the same(big city, some problems)

It's not a problem to the extent that if you asked most Montrealers this question they'd think you were making an attempt at humour.

Just stay away from the ones off the 10-30 junction out here, the place is packed on a Tuesday lunch special for truckers. Montreal's escorts are probably a bit classier, it's Saint-Jean that has a problem!

The original poster, who is a American, seems to be showing a underlying assumption, that somehow Canada is less moral than the USA is.

I`d say that opposite is true. At least here we have the sense to realize that in some cases a woman may make a decision about how she wants to make a living, that is outside of the mainstream.

It is called the `oldest profession `for a very good reason.

It's sounding like Canada may not be the place for you & especially not Montreal, as Montreal is known for being VERY open minded & a party town. Canada doesn't vilify & attack the escort industry like the US does, not unless someone is harming the escorts or committing other crimes. This is the one thing I can't stand about the US. Instead of dealing with crimes that hurt people, they go after the escort industry.

If you think that sexuality is something to be ashamed of, it's probably best you stay in the US. Like others have said, prostitution is legal here & there's currently laws pending at the Supreme court of Ontario.

That's the one thing I love about Canada, most people here aren't afraid of their sexuality like in the US. There was even a documentary done on the HUGE rate of teenage pregnancy in the US compared to Canada & EU all because the families there teach their kids to be afraid of sex, protection, etc. etc.

It's sad.

I think I saw that documentary. Is that the one where they asked young people in places like the Netherlands "What would you think of your date if you found out they were carrying a condom in their wallet/purse?"
The kids from the Netherlands didn't seem to understand the question. "Why WOULDN'T my date have a condom on them?"
The kids from the US were mortified. The guys said they would think the girl is easy and slutty, while the girls said the guy is looking to score and couldn't be trusted. How sad is that?
If that's the one, it was called "Let's Talk About Sex". Great documentary.
