Mississippi is and never was southern enough for me (song)

If you're going to troll, at least make it realistic. Calling Mississippi too yankee is like calling New York City too southern. Not biting. Although I replied, so I guess I bit. Oh well.

I guess I am not quite sure what the TS is working to say. For myself I have lived and worked in Northern Illinois my entire life and made the decision that at my stage of Life I wanted to make a sea change. I know what I had in Illinois and was watching my personhood extinguish as each day dripped by. Maybe thats the fate that awaits all of us as we age; I don't know. What I can say for myself is that I did not come to Mississippi looking for what I had in Illinois. And what I am waiting to experience is how Mississippians embrace Life, solve problems, enrich their days and so forth. I get a little concerned sometimes because a lot of what I see and hear is someone telling me "this" casino town, or "this" residential area with a golf course is the "real" Mississippi. To me, thats like pointing at some landmark like Wrigley Field in Chicago and saying "this" is the "real" Illinois.
I know that Northern and Southern Illinois are vastly different, so I am expecting that much in Mississippi; different flavors in different state regions. I also know that hubs of Commerce and Culture or going to have different approaches than rural and agricultural areas. This is all a given. What I would like to identify are some of the bedrock character traits that people associate with individuals who are born and bred to this state, rather than stereotypes folks would like to perpetuate.
So...if you strip away all of the talk of the Confederacy, Slavery, bib overalls, pick-up trucks and blue-collar self-gratification, is there a way of identifying a fundamental person of Mississippi? Thoughts?

I'm a real Mississippian, but I don't use the phrase "Bless your heart". It's mostly 35+, more southern females I hear saying it.

Lawrence must have been backstage as it was Myron Floren introducing the song and given his very faking looking "cough", I'd say he knew exactly what the context of the song was. these are musicians after all and well, we all know abouth "them" don't we....
