My life partner moved to Minnesota from Atlanta, Georgia in 2007. His southern drawl sounds so out of place here in the Northland that whenever he speaks people ask the obvious question. Maybe four times a year I see a car with Georgia plates (saw one tonight at Wal Mart from Dodge County, GA!) I'm wondering if other former "Georgians" live or even visit the SE Minnesota area..

I wouldn't consider myself to be a "Georgian," but I was born there, in Gwinnett County, and lived there during some of my childhood years. I live in the Mankato area, in South Central Minnesota on the edge of the Great Plains, about two hours west of Mapleview. I can imagine the culture shock of having moved from the Deep South to Minnesota as an adult. Although I'm fairly new to the state, I'm from Michigan, so I'm used to the Upper Midwest. I can't really explain the experience of being a Georgian in Minnesota, as I consider myself Minnesotan and don't have an accent or anything identifying me as "Southern." Still, I'm sure you guys will love Minnesota. It's obviously different from GA --- but an excellent place to live.

My parents moved down to Georgia due to work reasons, but I opted to stay here. There sure are a lot of Minnesotans in Georgia these days. I can tell you that much.
