I have a job offer for a company in Plymouth, and my family is looking to relocate to the Twin Cities. What is the quality of life in Prior Lake and what kind of commute would it be from there to Plymouth?

Prior Lake is a nice area, schools are good. The commute isn't too bad but Plymouth is a nice area as well, schools are great. I would start there to avoid the commute.

Plymouth, Maple Grove, Minnetonka, Hopkins, and (and now getting closer in to downtown and uptown if that appeals,) Golden Valley, and St. Louis Park, all have nice neighborhoods to check out with less of a commute.

IMO, a good rule of thumb for tolerable suburb-to-suburb commuting in the Twin Cities is first, avoid crossing a river, or excepting that, keep the distance as short as possible, like a few miles at most.

It will only take one snowy winter of commuting to convince you of that.

I know a number of folks who live in Prior Lake, its affordable and schools are good. Agree with post on crossing rivers...check the freeways in and around where you will work.

Hey Grand Prairie,
If the job offer is in Plymouth, then look at the 'burbs around there. As a fellow Grand Prairian (Born and raised in GP), the commute in winter takes a lot to get use to. A good rule of thumb, until you get use to driving in winter up here, is the closer the better.
