More of the same here. The family may be relocating to the Rosemount/Apple Valley area. I tried a search but did not find any current information on the cost of utilities. I am not looking for a quote, but a rough estimate.

What can we expect the cost of utilities in January and July for a 2,500 sq foot house? Summer temperature will be 70 - 75F, winter will be 62 - 68F in the house. This includes gas, electric, water, sewer, and waste.

Thank you.

It's really REALLY going to depend on the house, how good the windows and insulation is, etc. I can tell you that our house is about 3500 sq feet including the basement. We need new windows!! In the winter our gas bill is in the $200 ball park, give or take $50 depending on the weather. Never went above that last year though. Electric bill in the winter is $100-150 but we have a heater on our pond to keep our fish alive and run a humdifier most of the time.

In the summer our electic bill replaces our gas bill roughly--again, pond expenses in there too. Our gas bill is minimal--$30 or so (gas water heaters--2 of them).

When we put in new windows, I expect those costs to come down quite a bit. We are with Dakota Electric and MN Energy ( think that is their name). They are not the only company in the area though. You can call the utility company and ask what the current occupants are paying. They will either give you a month to month break down or an annual expenditure usually.

Depends on the house. We are on the budget plan for both gas and electric. Our Gas bill is $45/month and electric is $105. We have never owed money at the end of the year. Our house is 2400 square feet including the basement. We also have bad windows.

Water is billed quarterly by the City of Rosemount (if you move to Rosemount). We have a sprinkler system, so our bill goes up alot in the summer. Average in non hot months is about $140 a quarter. Up to $200 in the summer.

Great information. Thank you both for the help.

We should know in a week or two if we are headed North.

Insulation and overall size is very important here, as are windows.

As you can see, in the land of 10,000 lakes, water isn't a huge concern... Although some cities bill monthly, and others bill quarterly.

Garbage pickup also varies by city--some cities make you choose a private contractor, and some have a city-wide contract which they add as line-item to your water bill. I don't know which system Rosemount uses.

Your natural gas bill varies the most. Could be as little as $15 for hot water in the summer (add $5-10 if you use a gas clothes dryer), but $200+ in January and February. But the budget plans that the utilities offer average it out and ensure that your monthly bill changes a maximum of twice a year.

Rosemount has private trash pick up so you contract with whatever company you want. We have weekly pick up and every other week recycling pick up, wheeled containers for both, and in the summer we have unlimited yard waste pick up. It's about $25/month give or take depending on the company and size of trash can.
