My tax assessment went down 10% this year. I have a hard time beliving the value of my property fell that much in one year. I'm not complianing about the lower tax bill, but wanted to see if this was somewhat in line with what others are seeing.

I dont live by the lakes, but I dont live in the worst part of the city either. I would say I live in a 'nicer' city neighborhood.

Mine is up about 2-1/2% on an unchanged estimated market value. Did they decrease the estimated market value of your homes?

Did you have a special assessment fall off? Maybe they did some roadwork or what not several years ago and that is now paid?

Mine proposed taxes up 2.5% on unchanged estimated market value.

Smallest increase in several years. I'll take it...

Don't know who that applies to, but the shares are down across the board. There's no reason for the school tax to fall because a roadwork assessment gets paid off.

If your taxes are down and you haven't had an assessment paid off, then the estimated market value of your home must have decreased because the tax rates have not decreased. The only other possibility is that a homestead credit kicked in for the first year.

Our tax-assessed value went down about 10% also- am thinking of calling an assessor to come out as we may be putting it on the market in the next 6 mos. and the tax-assessed value is lower than reality. I'm not the most happy with all the northsiders that cried foul a few years ago around their tax-assessed values being too high- the county responded a little too well to those complaints to the point where things aren't an accurate reflection of market value. But might be helpful for the fact that we'd be purchasing a house in the same area if we did move.
