I'm looking for a weekend winter getaway in Northern Michigan. I usually go to Shanty Creek during the winter, and Glen Arbor in the summer - so I would like something new....

Would like to keep the budget for a hotel until $250 since this will be a random getaway for just a couple days...

I'm intrigued by the idea of a snowmobile vacation, but I would have to rent one and from my mini research so far, it seems like that adds up fast.

Also I am not too concerned about where in Northern Michigan, just need something different. I'm open to the U.P. as well.

Side note: We are a couple in our mid 20's - and also we don't ski or snowboard!

*** Has it been cold enough up there for any of the waves on lake michigan to freeze? I've seen this a few times and would love to see it again.

*** Also if anyone has any amazing winter scenery they would like to recommend...

If your looking to snowmobile I'd suggest you look to go into the U.P I'd look around the Newberry area for cheap hotel and they also have one or two places to rent sleds. From there you can ride in any direction for hours and hours and see some great scenery.

Sled rental is not cheap though. I'd suggest a 2 up so she HAS to hold on tight. Best of luck, have fun.

I too recommend Newberry area....but also Indian River and Cheboygan have rental places and some GREAT trails to try out......

Top of Michigan Trails Council: Michigan Hiking, Biking and Snowmobiling Trails

great trails there....and Black Mountain Recreation area in cheboygan is well known for being BEAUTIFUL and great for snowmobiling and cross-country skiiling (would be cheaper to try and easy and FUN!)

Have fun!!!

My brother and brother-in-law tell of some amazing snowmobiling in the U.P around the Paradise area. In this area you can go around Whitefish point, Tahquamenon falls and catch some beautiful scenery! Seeing the great Lake Superior in the wintertime is also quite a sight!!

There are a couple of nice B & B's in the Lewiston-Atlanta area. Maybe you will see some elk.

It is a get-away. that generally doesn't mean a rocking time, but instead a quite, relaxing time. Why are you always such an ass when it comes to anything in that area?
