We seem to have fruit flies really bad this year, and a guy I know in Lansing has them really bad too. Anyone else seeing an uptick of those little buggers this year? Is it a statewide thing?

Not here in SE MI...and I have bananas, sweet potatoes and tomatoes out in a bowl.
Lightning bugs were really late this year though.

No fruit flies around here but we sure have been overrun by these little Knats that hatch and fall into my pool and there are thousands of them. Never seen em or had this problem before.

None up here yet but what works really well is putting a glass of cabernet out. They'll all stay near and in the glass.

What a waste of a good cab though....unless you strain it afterwards.
I have heard the same thing about vinegar.

I'm with chiroptera. How do I drink my Cabernet then?

I wouldn't say swarms, but ever-present. And maybe they're knats and not fruit flies.

Put apple cider vinegar in bowls, cover them tightly in saran wrap and then poke small holes in the saran wrap. It's a very effective fruit fly trap.

Switch to Merlot.

Granny used to call me when the mayfly hatch started; they dirtied up her porch in a nasty like fashion up dere on Lake Superior every spring.

I'd get my southern MI butt up dere in a hurry type way with trusty fly rod in the back of the truck...

Trout.

It's what's for dinner.
