Last year when my son turned 6 mos. old we went to Lakeport State Park (north of Port Huron) and took fabulous photos on the beach and spent a while enjoying the park/beach. We would like to do that again (beach photos), but with gas prices, we're wondering if anyone has any suggestions of another beach closer to the Detroit area. I might even settle for an inland lake depending.

Don't quite a few of the metroparks have beaches?

Depending on where you live, Kensington, out by Brighton might be good and they have a farm center there too with animals.

Very cute baby, BTW!

Metro Beach is the best one I can think of. Metro Parkway (16 Mile) and 94.

(Of course I'm partial to the Bluewater area, but gas prices are a bit high to go to Port Huron several times).

Default beach pics '08

despite the gas prices, we traveled to Lakeport State Park for our son's 18 month photos as we did for his 6 month pics last year. it was a gorgeous day on the lovely beach, just like last year!

So cute! Thanks for sharing. Don't you love doing photos? My Dh goes a little nuts as we've spent more on photo shoots of the boy than our wedding pictures (which were faaar from cheap), LOL!

One thing a photographer told me once when I was fretting over location was that a good photog doesn't really need "soaring vistas". If you can find a little stretch of something, you're golden as a good one can make it look awesome.

Kensington is absolutely fabulous. i worked there for five years during college and I still cannot get enough of that place. the entire Huron River is a wonderful place for Canoing or Kayaking with children. Lake Erie Metropark has a pretty decent beach and a neat wave pool as well.

Sorry but the really beautiful beaches are all on the west side. We have found that it is about a push for us to rent a car that gets better mileage for long trips. You also avoid putting wear on your car that way. Car rental is pretty cheap. The car rental companies are dying for business.
