What are the best insurance carriers for homeowners insurance in Miami? I want a good rate but also a reputable company that will be able to pay claims.

Are you looking for a home owners policy with windstorm coverage? If you are Citizens is one of the very few choices when it comes to windstorm coverage for South Florida.

I don't know who's writing new hurricane policies in Miami anymore, Citizens is probably the only one... The best thing is to stick to a large national company, not one of these local florida small companies.

The small companies or brokers, generally write citizens. I'm not a fan of citizens but i think its the best option. Just finagle the discounts via a good inspector and go with deductibles that you can live with, thats all you can do.

You must not be from around here.... In S. Florida you take what you can get when it comes to HOI.

Insurance companies arent really in business to pay, they are in business to not pay.... But sometimes you get lucky!

It amazes me that even with the terrible cost and service of insurance in south Florida, developers continue to build and sell overpriced homes and mortgages continue to be written that will ultimately fail.

A broker tells me I qualify for 4.5 X my gross income, while in fact taking into account property insurance, annual double-digit increases indefinitely, and property tax (and car insurance and electricity), 2-2.5X my income is what I can realistically, comfortably afford. If my case is representative, we're steam rolling towards a second foreclosure crisis!
