Hi All,

Looking for some advice on where the best town in or near the Berkshire's to stay. We are a fairly young couple who enjoy arts (museums) and antiques. We would like to find a great massage spa close by. suggestions please.

There is a Canyon Ranch spa in Lenox. But I think it's very expensive.

Great Barrington, Tyringham, Lenox, Stockbridge, West Stockbridge. Also, north is Williamstown and North Adams home of Mass Moca. In Williamstown there is a lovely B&B run by the Trustees of reservations. The Clark is there. Another lovely town.

If you guys like literature, the former home of Edith Wharton, one of America's greatest authors, is in Lenox. It's a magnificent place and now a museum. She came from an aristocratic family, besides income from her own successful writing career (The House of Mirth, Summer, and The Age of Innocence are some of her best loved), and she married an upper class man, Teddy, and this is no ordinary house - it's a large estate, built in 1902.

North Adams is a dump though. A good side trip if you want to visit Mass MoCA, but probably not what one has in mind for a weekend away in the Berkshires.

Clark Art Institute in Williamstown is a stellar art museum. I haven't been to MassMOCA yet but heard good things about it. North Adams may not be the handsomest of places but you'll likely find more lodging choices there. That and Mount Greylock, the highest peak in Massachusetts is right nearby. Definitely take an opportunity to check out Shelburne Falls with the Bridge of Flowers, the glacial potholes, and a good number of cute boutiques and antique shops though these are probably activities best done during warm months. What season do you plan to visit the Berkshires?

Not sure where you'll be starting from, but don't miss that the weather in January will be a likely factor in the Bershires. It may affect travel.

Oh boy. Bundle up. And yes, that could impact where you can stay. Some B&B's may be closed and many of the AirBnB's are not winterized.

There is a lovely old hotel in Stockbridge called "The Red Lion Inn". I think that may be open year round.
