It's just Jury selection, which is probably why.

Saw a spotlight article on Ms. Read in this weekend's Globe. She's definitely had some health challenges in her young life, and I feel some sympathy for what happened that night. But at the same time, the evidence in support of the "counter" theory seems weak or nonexistent. They quoted the judge as saying that she had read over 7,500 pages of evidence, and had not seen any alternate culprit mentioned.

I saw something recently that she was accusing okeefe of cheating and that the possible mistress had also been around that night. Like voicemails of her screaming about the other woman. I dunno. It seems like the court of law wants nothing to do with this turtle boy stuff

I think the last pre trial hearing actually disclosed quite the opposite....that she was flirting with one of the cops/mutual acquaintances. Her lawyer said she went to his apt and smooched him. Not sure how this will all play out in court but sounds like a giant soap opera.

The judge is excluding any "third party culprit" theory based on the evidence that was presented to her. It's interesting how the defense attorneys are using very Trumpian tactics to discredit the judge, alleging bias based on flimsy grounds.

Can't read Globe articles, but as of yesterday I thought she said it could be used as long as it wasn't in opening statements?

You're correct, my error. It'll be interesting to see what the defense can concoct, I mean come up with, that isn't supported by the 7,500+ pages of evidence the Judge has seen so far.

Rather, (Judge) Cannone told the defense outside the presence of the jury pool: “I’m going to give you a chance to develop it through relevant, competent, admissible evidence. But you cannot open on it. So that’s my ruling on that.”
