Any opinions on Holliston?? Seems like nice bang for the buck and my family is looking to move further from the city (Boston) for more space ...but have a few questions.

How are the schools (we have small children)?

Any opinion on quality of Youth Athletic programs?

Any opinions on the community and the people?

Is it boring (boring not necessarily bad)?

Any color would be helpful....

Where do you live now and what do you think of it? Things like "is it boring?" are heavily subjective and your opinion of your current hometown will give people a good reference.

We live in Newton. We like it here, but perhaps too urban for us and feel too anonymous (not great community feel). But we do like the dining options. We do not head into Boston as much as one would think.

Pros: Holliston is a lovely community with award-winning schools & quite a few family-owned small businesses. The town center is becoming more vibrant & walkable (though certainly not a bustling place like Newton). It's also one of only two school systems in the state that have French immersion in the elementary school, which is a popular program. There's an active newcomers/moms club and lots of community activities. Like many communities around here there are plenty of recreational activities through the town. I don't get the sense that they're a super competitive, hard driving sports program, but that's just from seeing my nieces in sports there. You can get quite a lot of house for your money there compared with Newton.

Cons: High taxes and no easy highway access. Plus there's no large grocery store in town. We shop at the Superette (really nice people who've been there for ages) for smaller items. There are grocery stores along the town lines though so it's easy access. There's also not much in town in the way of restaurants if you like to eat out a lot.

There are a few videos online about the town. Google "living in Holliston" or visit YouTube & I think you can find them that way.

I forgot to answer your question about boring. I think it depends what you're looking for. If you want nightlife, Holliston doesn't have much of it. There are lots of outdoor activities, nice trails, parks, swimming, etc. plus lots of family-oriented events.

Thanks KMann-Sherborn. Very Helpful. Is the Newcomers and Moms Club seperate or 1 club?

I'm not sure someone considering Holliston would add Milford to their list of towns to check out.

I don't know much about Holliston but I would absolutely NOT consider Milford. Sure it has easy access to 495 and a decent hospital but that's about all it has going for it.
If you are concerned about good schools, it's not the town for you. I have a cousin who lives there with young children and they received a letter in the mail last fall informing them that their son's elementary school had lost it's state accreditation. I agree with the previous poster...if you're looking at Holliston, Milford probably isn't even on your radar.
