The pay difference is $1 per hour. The higher paying job is in Rockville. The lower paying job (by $1) is in Baltimore. Which area is best to move to?

Where do you live now? What is your price range? Do you have a family? How far are you willing to commute?

All questions that need to be answered before anyone on here can give you proper advice.

Chicago. Looking to rent. Price range caps at around $1100 a month. No family. Single guy. How far am I willing to commute? Not at all. If I work in Rockville I want to live in Rockville and if I work in Baltimore I want to live within 10 miles of where I work. But my job will really be in Dundalk though I hear it's sketchy.

Rockville: I doubt you will find anything in the area for $1100/mo. To be realistic you will need to be able to afford at least $1400 to live in the area. Other posters more familiar with the Rockville area will probably be able to give you more details. If you were to take this job you wouldn't be living anywhere near where you work.

Dundalk: Much more affordable. Dundalk has good and bad areas and most should be in your price range. If you were to do some research on apartment complexes and post the ones you can afford on here I'm sure posters will be able to tell you if it's a good move or not. I would also look into Rosedale, Essex or Glen Burnie for places to live. All give or take are approx' 10 miles from Dundalk.

You won't find much in Rockville under $1100/month, especially in a popular location near a Metro stop. I think your rent money will go much further in the Baltimore area.

Yeah I just looked at Rockville. Crap that place is expensive. It ain't worth $1 more in wage.

Rockville is too expensive for that budget. Would you be willing to take public transportation to work? If not, then I suggest sticking with the Baltimore area. There are plenty of nice affordable places near Baltimore such as Linthicum, Glen Burnie, Hanover, Pasadena (Riviera Beach), Dundalk, Essex, etc. They're all within 20 minutes of Dundalk. Good luck on your move to Maryland! And welcome!

If the difference is honestly a buck an hour, I'd go by where you want to live more. Will be tougher in Rockville on that budget relative to Bmore, but that's what roommates are for. Think about your quality of life, proximity of family & friends etc. Dollar an hour difference isn't worth missing out on those other things IMO.

Many places in Balt require you to pay for your parking. Something to consider.

There's greater social opportunities for a 20-something young man in Baltimore as opposed to Rockville.
