They are census bureau estimates, but other than that, I'm not sure how they came up with the numbers. The fact that they are estimates may mean that we should take the data with a grain of salt; then again, what's reported is consistent with the trends we've seen. Without looking at the methodology it's hard to say.

'County' meaning Aroostook county.

'Downeast' is an old sailing term. Sailing out from Boston harbor, to go downwind and Eastward, meant hugging the shoreline from Boston toward Newfoundland. Wander out too far from the shoreline and the continental shelf drops off, giving you deep blue waters which are much rougher sailing. Staying over the continental shelf is shallower waters which are smoother, and easier to sail.

Downeast generally refers to Washington County, or basically the entire coast east of Ellsworth. Mainers correct me if I'm off.

For those who have never seen a real moose except in photographs, a moose is like a Black Angus on stilts.

Just as tasty, too.

"THEE" County is where "the" County reference comes from. Multi religious, but a lot of French Catholic. The churches in the St. John Valley on both sides of the river are stunning. The huge brown wooden church in Frenchville is pretty cool. Some massive cathedrals on the other side of the river in Canada.
