Well we were able to change our move out till tomorrow, have to wait till early afternoon for a walk-through with our landlord but it beats leaving at rush hour.
We've never been through this part of the country so we're looking forward to it...well we are now that we've gotten such great directions here
If I'm not using AAA crossing the country, I usually check mapquest and randmcnally. And I don't usually have to change things at the last minute.
El, mapquest can be a bit off..I'd still dble check with yahoo or somewhere else. We made one trip that should have been 1 1/4 hrs on this one road I knew (just not the finer details)and their way took almost 3 hrs.
We're gonna take a trip to Maine from East TN and looking for the best way to go without driving through NYC or Boston CT! ANYONE who can give us the closest way via Interstates would be great to know to those who have been there. TIA!!

Nott being a jerk but check out a map. I would google.
I drive up from South Jersey a lot coming back from visiting family, and from South Jersey I take:
- I-95 north (NJ Turnpike) to the Palisades Parkway (near Fort Lee, NJ)
- Exit onto I-287 East and cross the Tappan Zee bridge into NY state
- Exit almost immediately onto the Saw Mill River Parkway North
- Exit onto I-684 North still in NY
- Exit onto I-84 East and cross CT on that
- Exit onto I-90 East in MA
- Exit onto I-290 North near Worcester
- Exit onto I-495 North
- Exit onto I-95 North near Amesbury, MA and you can follow that up into ME - you will hit Kittery, ME on the Maine border in less than half an hour
This route kind of skirts NYC. You *don't* want to take I-95 all the way across the George Washington Bridge through NYC, you're basically getting off just before the GW bridge at Fort Lee - move into the right side of I-95 lanes, marked "Local Traffic" or something like that, just before the GW Bridge and you'll then see the exit for Fort Lee. The toll at the George Washington Bridge is heinous, and the traffic in NYC can be really bad. It can be congested anywhere, but that's a special trouble spot.

Personally, I would take 81 from Tenn to Scranton Pa and I-84E. Then, like outdoorlover says:
Exit onto I-84 East and cross CT on that
- Exit onto I-90 East in MA
- Exit onto I-290 North near Worcester
- Exit onto I-495 North
- Exit onto I-95 North
Better scenery and a lot less tolls and cuts out DC, NYC, Boston. I've driven both ways going to S.C. and we like 81 a whole lot better. We enjoy the caves in Va.

Coming from TN (further west), this is probably better!
