Dear Maine residents,
I, my wife and 2.5 yr old son will be relocating to the Augusta area where my wife will be starting a job this May.
Everybody thinks that we are very brave to make such a major move but I have been encouraged by reading posts in the forum about Maine.
We need all the information we can get before we make the move. Will appreciate any feedback y'all can provide.
The things important to us are:
1. Education, daycare/kindergarten, evening activities for our son, proximity to places like YMCA or other child oriented activity center.
2. Affordable housing; either houses for purchase/rent or apartments/townhomes/condos. Great neighbours, family oriented atmosphere.

The place of work is in East Chestnut St. 04330. Any area in the radius of about 30 miles will be preferred, especially the ones closer to Portland.
What kind of house can we expect in the $150K-$175K budget? We are looking for relatively newer homes <10yrs.
Any real estate agents that you can recommend.

Thanks to all.

I live smack dab in the middle between Lewiston and Portland in the town of Naples. I would venture to say at least an hr and a half south of Augusta. Housing in this area is pricey, as is Portland, but I'm sure there are towns that can offer the range that you have stated. Check this link, it has quite a bit of info on places to stay, Real Estate etc. REMOVED
Good luck, I hope you enjoy this lovely state! I lived briefly in Montgomery when I was a little kid in the 60's, my sister was born there as a matter of fact.

Smile Missing URL

Thank you for the info. Looks like the URL you have posted has been taken out. Must be this site policy. Would you please post it again without the http, www or .com extension so it doesn't show up as a link.
I lived in Birmingham and I must say it is a hidden gem of the south. Great weather, nice schools, affordable housing and great people. I am going to miss all of that. Not sure how Montgomery is now. Just drove through the city a couple of times.
Thx

I have removed it manually. Any type of advertising ( especially real estate and mortgage ones ) will be removed, even without ".com" or "http" . You can send URL via private message or e-mail but do not post it on this forum.

We'll I think your doing the right move. Maine for the most part is a great place. I lived in NH for 37 years untill I moved right up the road from you to Madison, AL in 1987. While in NH we frequented Maine for our vacations with our RV. Maine is a very clean state and the people are great. The only problems I can see are the cost of living is higher and black fly (or deer fly) season is a killer. Other than that you'll love it as long as you love snow. For the past few years we have selected Maine as our retirement location but we want to move to a small coastal town. Good luck with your relocation.
