Hello all! I am relocating to Louisville from Indianapolis (Avon, Plainfield areas to be exact).

Can anyone tell what parts of Louisville are similar to either of the Indianapolis suburbs: Avon, Plainfield, or Brownsburg, if possible?

Thanks! :-)

Would you categorize that area as nice but not elite / snooty? If so I'd say Jeffersontown or Fern Creek on the KY side or the better parts of the Indiana side would be similar.

Hello censusdata! :-)

Yes I would perhaps categorize Avon/Brownsburg/Plainfield as really nice and safe areas (not much snooty)! :-)

How far would Jeffersontown or Fern Creek be from UofL driving distance? Also, what parts of the Indiana side would be nice from across the bridge from Louisville (like minutes away)?

U of L main (Belknap), medical, or Shelby campus?

Budget, apartment or house?

Suburban or urban?

Public school districts an issue?

Anything besides safety you want in an area?

Those areas are very much like Jeffersontown and Fern Creek....only Louisville's counterparts are probably 5/7 mins closer to downtown as Louisville is about 5 mins smaller in its metro reach.

Louisville's S. Indiana suburbs also have a similar feel. The Charlestown Rd Corridor off 265 in New Albany is similar, and much closer to UofL, even in traffic (but could involve tolls but the gas savings alone will make tolls a wash).

Louisville's east end is like Carmel/Fishers. A bit more "uppity" out US 42 all the way to Goshen, and on up to Lagrange.

If you want a real "southern" feel , Louisville's south suburbs like Hillview, Shepherdsville, or Mt Washington could be an option. I am personally not a fan.

I think Jeffersontown near Taylorsville and Hurstbourne, and south along Taylorsville, looks like most Indy burbs.
