A natural gas well blowout near the Ramah exit means they've closed I-10 between LA 415 (just to the west of BR) and Lafayette. They're rerouting people onto US 190. And they've been steadily moving back the date that people can travel on that 50 mile stretch of I-10 - now they're saying December 4.

Ooh, we just went through this mess on Fri. and then back on Sun. It was a mini contraflow situation on Friday afternoon (heading west). Returning on Sunday was quite a bit better; perhaps it was the time (abt. 1-2 PM or 2nd quarter thru half time of the Saints game). Bless your heart if you have to pass through this yucky mess.

I can't imagine all that traffic rerouted to Hwy 190. I'm SO glad I'm not heading that way anytime soon.

And the ironic thing is, it's a lose lose situation - the businesses along I-10 that get the Interstate business are losing business, while the businesses on 190 aren't geting much bew business - people just want to get through the 190 gauntlet.

Needless to say, I'm sure new legislation will be passed in the next session limiting how close these wells can be to a major highway. I'm surprised such a law wasn't in effect to begin with.

Default Update

They're allowing limited local traffic between Louisiana Avenue (a couple miles east of I-49) and Whiskey Bay, so that the businesses in St Martin Parish can get a little traffic.
