Our View: Dreaming of the day commuters don't have to - Opinion - VVdailypress.com - Victorville, CA

Hey I'm all about property ownership and square footage, but this seems crazy. 106 miles each way? What is the true cost of home ownership when you put that many miles on your car, and your body? And you waste that much time? I'm trying to think of the positives here but I honestly cannot think of any. There are places on this side of the mountain range that this person could live, or even Palmdale would be a better alternative than Apple Valley.

Indeed.

I once knew a guy who commuted from Palmdale to Ridgecrest (94 miles north). I was always like:

I commuted from Ridgecrest to Chino Hills (138 miles) 3 times, I did it to honor a 2 week notice....after doing it those three times, I crashed at friends/co-workers homes or stayed at motels for the rest of the 2 weeks.

Commuting like that is no way to live. Ever.

I've known a couple people who did it. I'd at least get a Model S or something. Seems like an awful way to live your life. I have a 20 mile one way commute and it kind of sucks.

If you can afford a Model S (Tesla) you can probably afford to live closer to work.
