Hey Everyone!

Moving to LA. Went and visited and saw some places I liked. Just saw a good apartment online and can't make another trip until I need to sign a lease. What is the area at Vermont and Beverly like? The apartment is cheaper than the others I looked at, but the inside at least online looks nice. Curious about the area around Vermont and Beverly?

Thanks!

vermont and beverly is mostly latin immigrants. much of the area has signage in spanish and i doubt much english is spoken in the area's markets/restaurants. i'm not sure about safety, but the area is pretty poor, so i would imagine crime is higher than average. however, there is a metro stop at that intersection which will take you to downtown or hollywood in under 10 minutes.

Thanks for the tip. I know Koreatown/Mid Wilshire economically differs every few blocks. The neighborhood is of interest to me precisely because the Metro convenience to Hollywood and Downtown. What area of Koreatown would you recommend? Any intersections or areas that are better?

I used to shop at the Von's grocery store at 3rd and Beverly a few blocks south of that intersection.

You WILL hear Spanish spoken by a number of customers...but the employees are completely fluent in English. The area is working class but I don't consider a "danger zone" like the areas immediately around MacArthur Park.

The "best" parts of K-Town would include the area around Wilshire/Western stretching along Wilshire (immediately north and south) to Vermont/Wilshire. THe redline stops at three points along Wilshire here: Western, Normandie, and Vermont.

I can spend up to $1300 on rent. I need to find an area near downtown and Hollywood. Would East Hollywood be better than Koreatown, even the nice areas of Koreatown such as at Wilshire and Western?

Here's a tool from the LAPD which maps crime by address.

East Hollywood is actually somewhat seedy.

The Los Feliz Village area is very good (and just east and north of "East Hollywood"). Basically I am talking about the immediately east and west of Vermont Ave from the Hollywood Hills/Franklin Blvd (north) to Hollywood Blvd (south).

There is a subway stop at Vermont and Sunset.

Not sure I directly answered your question: The good parts of K-Town are BETTER than East Hollywood.

Los Feliz is as goood or nicer than the best parts of K-Town.

Thanks for the help everyone. I have also focused on Franklin Village just west of the 101 in Hollywood. It looks like the nicest areas are Los Feliz, Franklin Village, good parts of Koreatown, and then finally East Hollywood. I'm hoping I can find something for $1300.
