MGM is asking shareholders to approve a name change from MGM-Mirage to MGM Resorts International. Although they claim that this is unrelated to any future divestment of the Mirage Hotel, I'm not so sure. As you may recall, they tried to sell it last year when they were close to going belly-up before getting the additional financing to finish City Center.

The letter we received stated that the reason for the name change was due to the point that the company wants to get involved in more of an international hotel business and not just gaming. The MGM Mirage brand name is synonymous with gaming and is recognized as such around the world.

The Mirage was put up for sale for just a bit, when the completion of City Center was in jeapordy because of the Sheik of Araby backing out of the deal...

There is no way now the Mirage Hotel on the Strip will be put up for sale...it's still making too much money. Maybe, just maybe, sometime in the far future, when it becomes so old and outdated, but not for a long time.

That's exactly my point! So why change it? If you want to add "International" to it, then it is easily made MGM Mirage International.

There is only one reason to delete Mirage from the name.

There’s not a property on the strip that's not for sale at the right price. With Mirage high fixed cost to operate. I would not be so sure that they are not entertaining offers at the moment.

As the saying goes: I'm not married to anything but my wife. Everything else is for sale.

The day The Mirage is sold is the day the lava will stop flowing. Sure the volcano blows some steam from time-to-time...but it ain't ready to blow just yet.

Mirage is for sale as we speak. MGM has made no efforts to hide from those who might purchase it that it is available. No deal has been made because everyone willing to buy right now are vultures. Penn National offered an amount for it that was looked at like it was a joke by MGM, they wanted to pay much less than what the TI sold for even though the Mirage is a larger property with more cash flow.
