Since it was such a nice day yesterday, my wife and I decided to go for a long ride with the top down on the convertible and we ended up at Lake Las Vegas for the first time. I had heard how nice it was out there, but we were simply blown away by the surroundings. What a fantastic place. It is such a shame that it is doing so poorly. We walked through the Ritz Carlton and around the little town village shops, some of which were still open. We ended up with a nice surprise when we came upon an Irish Pub with live entertainment and cold Guinness being served on the outdoor patio.

I sure hope that someone comes along to buy the hotel property and the casino and re-energizes the area.

It's a poster child for a financial disaster.

I think it has failed as a destination resort past all hope of redemption.

It will however get completed as a GV or Summerlin and be fine. Just needs 7 or 8 years before it has enough roofs to support a local casino and hotel.

Right now any destination properties like Lake Las Vegas will suffer for a long time. Locals don't patronize those types of properties as much as they could. But with unemployment at all time high locals can't afford to go to places like that to spend money. They may go and walk around and look but that doesn't help the business's if they don't spend any money.

That area has had issues beginning with the original developer until now. Who know's what it's destiny will be. I hope it recovers, however I don't see it happening for years and by then it may be a different place as well, it may end up marketing itself in a different way.

It's location is a blessing and a curse, some folks like it because it's so far out away from anything, yet it's remoteness is the same reason both tourists and locals don't go there to stay at the hotels or go shopping.

People in Henderson failed to keep this place hopping and sadly it is truly a ghost town in Lake Las Vegas. Been there quite a few times which takes me 45 minutes of driving and seeing an empty village is depressing.

Town Square is far better, the District at Green Valley Ranch is similar while Tivoli Village which will open later this year is ongoing with the construction of the village and a convenient location for me, just 5 minutes away from home. Lake Las Vegas is really in trouble. Goodluck with Lake Las Vegas, it needs it and the people of Henderson to keep it open.

I have heard that the lake itself is leaking and can't be repaired. Is that true or just a real estate rumor?

The Lake is a somewhat unusual structure. It actually sits on the main drain for the waste of Las Vegas. Two mammoth tunnels run under it carrying the waste.

There were concerns at one point that a leak might develop in one of the tunnels which would drain the lake....would have been like opening a drain in a bath tub.

It has all since been reworked. No actual leak every happened. Nor is it likely.

One can of course picture this huge drain opening up and swalllowing the 100 milllion lake...
