Im not familiar with the drivers license procedures here in vegas at all wat so ever but someone told me that after you past the knowledge test, you dont get your actual license card right then and there. Do they mail it to you within couple of weeks?? I thought that was only in California?

Can someone confirm that to me? Or do they really give you your license card right then and there?

We came from NC 18 months ago. I don't recall taking a test. I do know we had our license in hand same day. Welcome and Good Luck.

Rules just changed recently. They are now using the new facial recognition system so you don't get the license right away. Read about it here: ReviewJournal.com - News - Local offices start new procedures for driver's licenses

If you dislike the idea of being treated like a criminal in order to drive, you can significantly reduce the effectiveness of the facial recognition algorithms by smiling for the photograph, it works because it distorts your features. Other things you can do include wear glasses, a hat and facial hair. Some states that are using the same system have actually forbidden smiling in the photo.

No, DMV/DOT I've been to has ever let me wear my hat when I have my picture taken which, of course, makes me look like I just woke up with my hair sticking out every which way after I take it off. I always figure, who cares, it's just for my DL. Wait, one of these days I'll end up lost at sea or something and that'll be the picture they have plastered all over the TV news.

Exactly right. I actually went through this procedure Monday and had to take my glasses off the for the picture, even though I wear them when driving.

I got a temporary license, they gave me my old driver's license from another state back (with a hole punched through it for cancellation) and said I could expect the actual Nevada license in the mail in about 10 days.

One other tip when applying for a driver's license: You'll need a certified copy of your birth certificate. I had my actual birth certificate, stamped with a hospital seal from the day I was born, and they wouldn't accept it. If you don't have a certified copy, contact the county clerk in the state where you were born. Mine cost $9, and I had it in a week.
