i'm thinking of moving to vegas... besides the reviewjournal are there any other papers that have rentals.. I do not want to spend more than 700 or 800 on rent a 1 bedroom apt or duplex.. are my expectations real ??. In the pool service business and marine fish care business. I want to start a business there and then buy. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

You should look online, there are numerous apartment places advertising online. Plus if you go to craigslist.com and go to the Las Vegas section you'll find individuals renting out places.

You will be fine. Even pick up a small condo in a gated community for under $800. 1/1s in the condos start around 650 and are pretty nice by 750. You can get a 2/2 for 750 to 800. Theres 60 or 70 around town...about 35 on the nice part of the west side.

Apartments should run about 50 or 75 a month less.

Thanks, for the info very useful... does anyone know what the average utility bill is for say a 1 or 2 bedroom .. winter and summer ??? i'm in miami and summer here are about 180.00 per month for electric in summer & so called winter i've gotten down to 48.00 per month.. water was in my maintence fee about 20.00 per month... just trying to get idea's. Was in vegas last April for a couple of days, and loved it....

Electric is very expensive in Vegas in the summer. Our townhouse was around 1100 square feet and because you had to run the air all summer our bill was around $250 per month. Summer was much less than that. BUT... we generally had the air on from about April to September! It gets hot enough to need it during all those months.

Being in Vegas in April is one thing. Being there in the summer is another. You should visit once in the summer to get a taste of the heat. Summer temperatures swelter, around 100 degrees and sometimes more. It's drastically hot. I know some people say "it's a dry heat" and it is, but so is the heat from sticking your head in an oven. Hot is hot... in August in Vegas you feel like you are in an oven.

Many people visit in the cooler months, find they like it and move there. Then they do their first summer and can't stand it and want to move.

I will be there in july or august.. 250 per month for 1100 sq ft thats about the same for miami and ft myers.180.00 for 600 sq ft. my dauther has a house in lehigh acres. the temp here has been 114 to 119 ...
The water here costs 35.00 per month and every 1000 gallons is about 12.00 per month .. water bill in lehigh is 70 to 79 per month for 4 people..

Electric rates in Nevada are just about on the national average and are almost the same as Florida's. Average untily bills run about $300 per month for an around 2000 SF homes. Averages overall are about 170 per month. On an apartment or condo somewhat less...125 or so. A lot depends on how cold you keep it in the Summer.

Yup...but it only works for condos and homes listed in the MLS. No apartments or private rentals.

I guess I have been very lucky as the most I paid for my electric in my old two bedroom apt (1200 sq feet) was $100 during the summer. We are currently in a 4 bedroom 2-story house in the SW and the highest was one month this last summer and it was $185. We have an a/c unit for each floor and try to keep higher during the day when we aren't home. Also, we have ceiling fans for each room which has helped tremendously.

And you are definitely right - visit during the summer before you move! I used to come out here all the time but made the mistake of actually moving in July. OMG. Even though I was used to the heat out here, it was still quite a shock. This was my third summer here and it hasn't gotten easier to adjust yet!
