Well I completed my cross-country drive from Buffalo to Las Vegas yesterday. I will be staying in an Airbnb for a week while I try to lock down a place. Anyone have any suggestions for furnished apartments/condos? I sold all of my furniture before I moved so I wouldn't need to worry about it, so I need a place where I don't need to drop $5K on furnishings straight away. I have seen some nice new "luxury" apartment complexes in the southwest valley like Union and SW, and Constellation a bit further north in Summerlin. Does anyone know anything about these places? My budget is pretty flexible, but I would prefer to keep rent under $1800 a month, especially if nothing is included.

Center Point Apartment Homes has furnished apartments. They're off of Charleston. They used to be called Desert Shadows. We considered them since they were close to the hospital and came furnished.

Welcome Grumpie! Glad you finally made it.

Merry's suggestions are always good, but also consider that you can get cheap furnishings here on Craigslist until you are ready to drop the cash on what you really want. Because this town is so transient, people are always moving and selling stuff cheap. You'd have to do the math, but if the rent differential is significant on furnished vs. unfurnished, it's something to consider.

My favorite thrift store, Deseret Industries, also carries furniture and housewares. I picked up some Correlle dishes there for a steal.

You picked a good month to come. October is usually gorgeous and there are tons of things to do, though you will likely be busy because of the move. If you do want to look for activities, pick up a free Las Vegas Weekly or Sunday, or one of the other large mags you can get at casual dining places and grocery stores on the free publications rack.

Did you come with a family?

I second that. You can buy or rent temporary furnishings to get by with than during a furnished apartment. Most furnished are short term and really stick it to you on rent.

No, I came alone. I found a place near Warm Springs and S. Jones. It's fully furnished, but it's very pricey and is really too big for just one person. I talked the landlord down from a 12 month lease to 6, so I will see how it goes and make a decision around March about whether to stay or do as you and others have suggested with purchasing temporary furnishings. It has been beautiful the last couple days since I arrived. I'm looking forward to an above freezing winter, since I came from Buffalo. Thanks for all the help!

You're not kidding. The shorter lease may actually be a blessing. Ha ha
