My husband and I are considering many possibilities for relocation. Vegas is one of them. One thing I am concerned about is finding a job. I heard a while ago (maybe 6-7 years ago) that it is very difficult. I was told that even temp agencies don't like to hire people unless they have lived in vegas for at least a year. Is this true or are things different now? I would be looking for something in the clerical/administrative field and my husband would be looking for something in customer service.
Thanks for any info.

Although it may not be as hard as it was 6 or 7 years ago, you are not going to have any luck unless you have a local address. That is the general consensus around the board. I don't think you have to be living in Vegas for a year, but they won't even bother unless you prove that you have intent of staying there.

Oh yeah, and a local phone number as well.

I would have to say I got my job here in Vegas fairly fast, it was a Temp agency called "Corestaff".

I supported UPS software and equipment as a Phone Support Technician. If you are a Tech person you can get on there or with ClearWire or SITEL fairly quick too.

There are many callcenters here in Las Vegas that are needing people so I would say you should have an easy time getting relocated.

Vegas has something like 10 job fairs a year. Check them out.

reviewjournal.com -- Employment

I think the ones at Cashman are supposed to be the biggest.

As for actually getting the jobs, no, you don't have to live here for a year first. Having a local phone number and an address would be a good idea though. For the address, if you know a friend out here, you could probably use their address on applications until you make the move.

Thank you so much for the info!! Bigkel--thanks for the names of the companies. My Dad lives in Vegas, so I should be able to use his address.

...Rite Aid closing doesn't mean that the economy as a whole is bad. It means that they couldn't compete with Walgreens and CVS. Other fields out here are doing just fine.

Example: 4,000 jobs were created when the Palazzo opened this year.

I'll second that. Rite-Aid closing doesn't mean much. Walgreens and CVS just happen to have lots of locations all around the valley, and they have great sales, etc. And like radraja said, Rite Aid just couldn't compete with them. So they are now history.
Fresh and Easy stores are taking over alot of the old Rite Aid locations. So all is not lost.

There are a lot of new projects (CC, Trump, etc) coming along so the customer service and clerical/administrative fields should have openings. That said, many such positions do not require very specific backgrounds (in terms of education, experience, etc) so the pool of potential hires is relatively large.
