There is no secret to what you are getting... A cabana by the pool. Comes down to whether a cabana by the pool is worth $278 to you personally.

It is 550.00 at the Palazzo for the cabana. We got one about a month ago. If it were just me and a significant other, I wouldn't do it, unless I was trying to impress, then maybe. If I were paying, I wouldn't do it for 550.00 or 278.00. I'd spend the money elsewhere. I don't know what the cabana includes at Treasure Island, but at the Palazzo, the cabana had AC, a widescreen, and a fruit platter with 20 included bottled waters. You can get all that in a hotel room really, so I don't see the big deal. I will say this, we had some friends join us, and all our respective teenagers had a great time, so under those circumstances it might be worthwhile.

Just my opinion.

I think it is better when the cabana is "free" but you have to meet a food and beverage minimum, that way it seems like you are getting a lot for your money. If you are planning on sitting by the pool all day then you are most likely going to want to eat and drink throughout the day and since pools usually don't allow outside food and drink you are either forced to order the expensive food and drinks served poolside or have to leave for a while get things on your own. When you have to meet a minimum you can usually order anything you want without worry, most of the time I find that we are scrambling at the end to reach the minimum, some places will allow you leave the shortfall as an additional tip to your server. The only hotel that I know that does it this way is Monte Carlo but there may be others. If you ever have a larger group, I highly recommend their executive cabana, you get your own private wading pool area, two tvs, and sitting areas both in the sun and in the shade, as well as inner tubes for the lazy river.

For me, I like cabanas rentals because many hotel pools seem horribly short on shade. Being burned to a crisp (yes, even with sunscreen) is no joke, in the desert sun. Also the chairs can be so close together, it's downright hard to maneuver in and out of them, without sticking your tush in someone's face (and vice versa). Mandalay Bay, I'm looking at you!

Predictably, you generally get better food and drinks service. We have 2 youngish kids and a nice surprise has been, the servers have always been very doting on them (lots of Moms out there in those bikinis making a living, believe it or not), making sure to put extra cherries in soft drinks, bringing out bread or chips to keep everyone happy while waiting for lunch and giving extra of celery/carrots/ranch and watermelon when the kids request it. I'm sure it also helps that we are all polite, make eye contact and let them know that we are locals and feel their pain! A nice tip well before the day winds down, and one at the end keeps everyone cheerful!

So not a cheap day out, but there are other days for that!

Our condo complex has several very nice cabanas. I'll rent one to you and bring you FREE soft drinks and snacks for only $200.

I mean, it's a steal, isn't it?

(isn't it?)

I've never tried the cabanas because of the expense for just myself, but I like reading what people have to say about them on here.

I always see some of my friends posting pictures of large groups they're with (10+) renting cabanas at various hotel casinos here. Often times they're celebrating something like a person's birthday, a goodbye party for a coworker, family or friends coming to town with their kids.

It never occurred to me to ask them about their experience. I guess in large groups going to the pool for the day that would make more sense to me to rent a cabana if you could afford to.

I wish more hotel casinos did the minimum food and beverage service charge instead. That would attract my attention because I could visualize a ladies day with lunch poolside and I would think it was deal.

We stay at the Treasure Island quite often. If you can, ask for South Tower, South Strip view floors 25-30 and 31-35. You can then look down the strip and see both the Mirage Volcano and in the distance the Bellagio fountains. It's also fun to watch the traffic and lights on the strip.

These rooms also have a decent size bathtub.

As far as the Cabanas go they are nice but remember that after about 100pm you can usually cut a deal with the pool personnel to reduce the rate. If you don't want to spend a few hundred for a cabana why not consider a day bed? Usually they are about $45 during the week and a little more on the weekends. At Treasure Island they have about 6 of them with a folding clamshell top and are a circular couch that keeps the sun out. They fit two people easily. We found them to be quite comfortable.

Additionally, before the day starts consider having breakfast out by the pool at Kahunaville Restaurant. They have coupons for discounted breakfasts when you check in. You can sit outside on the patio and be right next to the pool and have a decent 3 egg, meat, hash browns, toast breakfast for about $8.99 a person with a coupon. On the other hand, the Treasure Island Cafe in insanely expensive and isn't that good anytime day or night.
