My husband and I are looking at a home in North Las Vegas. It's smack in the middle between Cheyenne and West Craig and MLK and Simmons (or Decatur if going farther). Looking at different crime maps, it seems things have been quiet there, and based on the map, it seems a little aways from the area in NLV that I connect with being the bad area. But then again, I was also told MLK is just bad in general. Any thoughts from someone who may know the area a little better than I do? Thanks!

You are right on the northern border of whats considered trouble. My philosophy is that unless your hookin' or doing drugs, chances are you're safe. Danger comes from the company you keep. You can't tell based on neighborhoods what is safe or not as Vegas is not really gentrified based on economics unless you'll be living in Spanish Trail.

That area is not the worst or the best for what is considered north las vegas. It is right on the edge where MLK turns into Camino Al Norte. There is actually two new developments around MLK and Alexander. One of them are Adaven Homes(Nevada spelled backwards). Home models were nice but not big enough for what we needed. If builders are developing and selling in the area, then it cant be that bad.

BUT!!!

Not too far down the street(south of MLK) the area gets worse.

By the way, I used to live on Craig/Clayton near the area and would shop at Ross, Wal-Mart, AT&T, Auto Zone, Home Depot, Justice and Target often. My wife's favorite nail salon is located near there also. Across from the Golf course near Dairy Queen.

airics said it best...

Default North Las Vegas

As someone who works at Nellis. And lives in Aliante. That is a good suggestion.

If your looking for a nice place. The area has all types of housing. Very low cost Townhomes at Decuater and 215. To expensive homes at Club of Aliante near the casino.

Thanks for the advice everyone! I think we'll stay away for now.

Von949, I think the houses you are talking about is one of the ones we were looking at. It's absolutely beautiful and just right for what we need and not to mention, affordable, but we'll be starting a family soon and I don't want to be worried about being in a bad area. I used to work at Premium Outlet a couple years ago, and I was always advised what a bad area MLK was. Plus, it'd be a bit of a drive to work for both of us. I guess the search continues.
