I've seen a lot more ...I won't say "rip-offs", but maybe, "ineffective" resumes ...done by "professionals" than I have good ones. I'd suggest that you do it yourself, unless you just can't write. I guess the best part of having it done is that it will be unbiased. We tend to want to create a list of everything we've ever done, and nobody wants to read all that. You can go to the library or Nevada's JobConnect, and find books on creating resumes, and they'll even let you use a computer to type it. Keep in mind that many employers consider the cover letter more important than the resume, and that should be personalized to the job requirements. If the job description says they want you to empty the waste baskets three times a day, you'd include your experience emptying waste baskets. Resumes and cover letters should be short and get right to the point. Nobody wants to read a long list of boring tasks that you were responsible for. You just want it to tweak their interest to learn more about you in an interview. IMO, generic resumes are worthless, and they say I'm lazy and just hoping to get by without putting out much effort. I personally think all resumes should be individualized to the job listing.

Actually, that "Resumés for Dummy's" book is probably pretty good. I wouldn't discount it at all.

Buzz is right on...as usual.

I can't stress enough that every resume sent needs to be tailored to the job applied for. Most are digitally scanned and if a certain number of keywords do not pop they are sent directly into the circular file. Avoyeed spulling and gramer miztaks. Always send thank you notes if you recieve an interview.

I can't redirect off CD but I can say that there is one MONSTER of a great website out there for resumes and cover letter resources. Don't pay for what you can get for free. Be resourceful.
