Are head hunters a good way to find employment if you are not local? Does anybody have an experience or knowledge of this?

I used to be a head hunter. If you're good on the phone you'll do OK.

As long as they don't charge YOU anything, use anyone you want. If they are legitimate they will charge the employer. Anyone who wants money up front to help you find a job is automatically a crook, so run away, fast. Usually headhunters are for professional positions, so if you are a professional, look for one that has a lot of good references so they don't waste your time.

But, the best person to find you a job is you. Get the book, "What Color is My Parachute?" as it is one of the best aids to finding a job there is.

Thanks. I'll look into that book.

It's just challenging going back n forth for interviews. I live in so cal, and I've gone back and forth for a few interviews, in which I did not land the job, and it makes me hesitant to keep applying because just getting time off work to make it out for an interview is such a mission. And then when it doesn't quiet work out, well you know. Thanks for the input. Not complaining, just speaking thoughts.

You could also try local job fairs. We usually have several each year.

If a head hunter hasn't placed you within 2 weeks they'll move on to the next candidate

Got my first RN job in Vegas via a Head Hunter who picked my resume up off of a Job site.

Head hunters these days rarely place people who are actively searching for work. Most employers want to poach someone who is working for someone else and most top head hunters are focused on this part of the market. When times are good you can interact more with head hunters, but right now its more of a "don't call us, we'll call you" scenario.
