Hi. I'm in the process of deciding where I want to relocate to when I retire in a few years - I am now in the Kansas City area. I'm interested in either TN or NC; however, I want to avoid areas that get ice in the winter.

Virtually all of Tennessee
will get at least some snow or ice in the winter. Here in central TN we get about 5-6 inches of snow which is entirely manageable. To REALLY escape winter you've got to go to much further south.

North Carolina gets ice storms almost every winter. We get ice in Tennessee too, but not nearly as often.

Having grown up in the Midwest but lived in Maryland most of my life, I can assure you that the ice in TN (warmer than MD) is way less than the ice in KS. It should be little enough and infrequent enough that you could easily live with it.

Anyone who has lived here long enough can tell you about the weather forcast to watch for. When they say Little to no accumulation of snow...watch for a blizzard.

To the lady from Kansas (Katy?) Don't believe a word of it. North eastern Florida where I live does not get cold enough for snow or ice. We have been living in the North central area and it is getting warmer every winter.
Come on down! The winters are paradise. It is the summers I can't handle now!::
