I live here in South West Missouri and I like to move somewhere where I can start a new life I like to be close to the Missouri River and Kansas City.

Maybe the Kansas City area as it covers all of the items in your list, including job opportunities.

SW MO? I am familiar with SE KS as we lived there for awhile. Realize there are differences in the cost of living, serious differences, so have a job before you relocate.

Sales tax (they tax everything here at a high rate), property tax is high if you buy a property, and personal property (think your vehicle) is a lot higher than MO. When we lived in SE KS, about 16 miles from the border, a lot of people went to shop in MO for the savings. People would take those plastic gas containers and fill the along with their vehicle. The gas tax is higher in KS. Be aware that although it doesn't seem that much further north, you will see more ice and snow than in MO, or at least where we were that was the case. Now, just off I-70, it seems so much colder in the winter. Maybe you like cold weather, snow and ice, so that would work for you.

If you have not visited the area, I would do that first. Definitely line up a good job before relocating, and that applies to any relocation, get the job first! It always pays to look at the reputation of the company, as some hire and replace quite often.

I am familiar with South East Kansas.I been to pittsburgh several times,Fort Scott,Galena,Baxter Springs and cities and towns in between. Many people in South East Kansas including North East Oklahoma go to Joplin Missouri and shop.I never pay attention to prices anyways.I heard rent is cheaper in pittsburgh kansas.

Did you ever relocate to KC MO? Curious if you did what do you think? I am thinking about doing the same from West Coast.

Kansas seems to be a very high tax state, and I'm a Marylander (casually shopping around for places to relocate the family to). My wife and I would actually pay more in state income taxes (on about $230,000 for us, but understandably we'd be around 200k in KS) out there than we would back here.

Property throughout almost all of the Midwest (except much of Indiana and Ohio) seems to have very high assessments as well as high millage on those assessments. We pay a 1.1% rate to our county (counties are the end-all-be-all of local government in MD, there are effectively no towns, townships, etc.)and that's it...no additional school levies, no additional town/village taxes, etc.

Oh well. At least Iowa seems to be moving to a flat tax rate of 3.9% by 2026, which is a nice cut from the 8.98% (on a measly 30k and above) currently in place, so perhaps that's worth following a little more closely.

I lived in Maryland for roughly 3 years. I live in Tennessee now, and from a tax perspective, it is more friendly here. I live in East TN where there are hills and four seasons. There is also no state income tax here. It's pretty scenery too in the valley between the mountains. Maybe you would consider it here? It is not too hot in the summer and not too cold in the winter. It does not snow much here either.

I reside in the Wichita, KS area. I've also considering relocating to NE Kansas. I liked the Lawrence area. I want to be in a diverse area with lots of job opportunities and great restaurants.
